Mark Sanchez’s ACL injury is likely to require surgery, but it could be more serious, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
The Ravens announced Wednesday that Sanchez will not return to the team for the opener.
The move comes after the Ravens and Sanchez met with team doctors and medical staff on Wednesday morning to discuss his recovery.
Sanchez has a torn ACL, a torn MCL, and a sprained MCL.
The NFL Network first reported the news.
The injury could affect the Ravens’ season, and the team could have to make decisions on whether to re-sign Sanchez or release him.
Sanchez has thrown for 6,076 yards and 41 touchdowns in the last two seasons.
